01/10/2007 - Deutsche Telekom about to sell directory enquiries
According to information gleaned by the German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche Deutsche Telekom is about to sell its directory enquiries service. Citing company circles the magazine reports that the bid by the US company Infonxx is about to be accepted. The bid of about 550 million euros (for the service that is reached in Germany by dialing 11833) by the company based in New York, which is reputedly one of the world's largest providers of directory assistance and enhanced information services is said to be the highest one submitted to date. Another point in favor of Infonxx was the fact that the company was the only remaining strategic investor, the magazine writes. Of the bids of the 22 parties interested in acquiring DT's directory enquiries service all those still being considered in addition to that of Infonxx had been submitted by financial investors, the magazine observes.
On Saturday a Deutsche Telekom spokesman declined to comment on the report. The sale would affect the jobs of about 50 Deutsche Telekom employees. The bulk of the operative work associated with the directory assistance and enhanced information service is done by external call centers. (Robert W. Smith) / (anw/c't)
