28/09/2007 - Swisscom combines Connect 1144, 1811 services
Swiss incumbent Swisscom has combined its 1811 directory enquiries service and Connect 1144 operator service under one number: 1811.
The current Connect 1144 number will be permanently disconnected on 30 September 2007 in line with the provisions of the new Ordinance on Telecommunications Services which stipulates that all information services must begin with the digits 18.
Swisscom's directory enquiries service 1811 can now connect calls too, a service that was previously only possible on Connect 1144.
Users can access Swisscom's 1811 service by SMS as well by texting the person's surname, first name and location to 1811. The person's contact information will be sent to the user by SMS. The SMS service is currently available only to Swisscom mobile users, but will be open to all mobile customers as of 1 October.
