BANGOR (NEWS CENTER) -- Verizon announced plans Wednesday to close a call center in Bangor, leaving 60 employees wondering about their future. The workers could be forced to relocate or leave their jobs.
Verizon is planning to close its directory assistance call center, which is located on the fourth floor of the Verizon building on Park Street.
Company officials say the call center is closing because the only customer the center served did not renew its contract. They say they'll shut down the center when the current contract runs out in March.
Verizon says it will try to find other jobs for those employees. According to union officials, the next closest call center is in Massachusetts.
