16/07/2007 - Connectivity to launch UK mobile number directory
Picked by Stuart Dredge on July 13th, 2007 in Biz & Tech
Phone books still exist, but they’ve been rendered a bit useless by the proliferation of 118 directory enquiries services, who’ll give you any number you want over the phone, and even connect you.
Anyway, a UK firm called Connectivity is launching a similar service, but for people’s mobile numbers. A complete directory of mobile users, which you’ll be able to ring up and pay to be put through to someone.
I can’t help wondering who’d agree to be on such a directory (Connectivity will be asking people’s permission). Personally, I’d rather be in control of who has my mobile number, and can call me. Even though an operator will ring to ask you if you’re willing to take each call, it seems a bit of a rum idea. What do you think?
